Tomatoes

First day of organic harvest: 7/20/2023
Organics – Crop and fields continue to look good. Fields are growing and the crop is maturing as expected. For most of this week we were in the mid to high nineties and it looks like it will continue into early next week also. However it’s forecasted to be back into the triple digits next week starting mid-week through mid-week the following week. We expect our dates to change and accelerate with the current ongoing spell of heat.

First day of pear tomato harvest: 8/10/2023
Pear Tomatoes – Fields are growing and fruit in the early fields are maturing as well. It appears that potential field yields could be a little higher than expected if the fruit sizes. Pear Tomatoes will experience the same weather conditions as the organic tomatoes.

Woodland harvest: 8/1/2023
Conventional Tomatoes – Fields are looking very nice. Early crop/plantings are maturing as expected. Predicted field yields are looking favorable if fruit continues to size. Mid-season crop/plantings are progressing nicely as well. Starting to see some nickel size fruit with some regularity throughout the fields. Late season plantings are also looking good. Still a few weeks away from full bloom. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to be over the century mark later in the week and into next week.

First day of harvest was 7/5/2023
Modesto/Madera/Kingsburg – Most growers are done thinning their orchards. The results of the last round of reference date sizing are 44.6mm, versus 43.5 last year at this time. Record high temperatures are in the forecast later this week; this may help bring the peaches on faster. The next variety of peaches are just starting to show some color. We are anticipating increased fruit deliveries after the 4th of July. All cultural practices continue.

Marysville/Yuba City – Growers continue to prepare for the season. The north will see six days straight of over 100 degrees heat in the coming week, which will help to move ripening along. The best estimate for the start of the Loadel harvest is still the week of July 17th.

Madera – Started picking the American variety today. Should start the Calaveras in about a week. Irrigation and weed control continue.
